Germany Deepens Peacekeeping Ties with Ghana and KAIPTC

Germany has reinforced its commitment to peace and security in Africa through a strengthened partnership with the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra.

A high-level German defence delegation, led by General Mathias J. Schallnus, made its first visit to the Centre, underscoring Germany’s growing interest in collaborative efforts with Ghana.

The delegation engaged with KAIPTC management to gain deeper insights into the Centre’s pivotal role in peacekeeping training and capacity building. Discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in training and trade, with a particular focus on expanding training opportunities for Ghanaian military officers.

General Schallnus lauded Ghana for its significant contributions to numerous peace support missions, recognizing this extensive experience as a robust foundation for joint initiatives aimed at elevating peacekeeping effectiveness.

The Commandant of the KAIPTC, Major General Richard Addo Gyane, who welcomed the German delegation, expressed profound appreciation for Germany’s consistent and impactful support.

He highlighted Germany’s key support in logistics, staff development, and funding for vital infrastructure projects, all of which are essential for the Centre’s successful operations.

Major General Gyane further emphasized KAIPTC’s critical role as a leading voice in peace and security research, thereby enhancing the capabilities of stakeholders within the peace and security landscape.

He also acknowledged the significant collaboration between Germany and KAIPTC on promoting gender equality and youth engagement, initiatives that have positively impacted numerous individuals across the African continent.

General Gyane conveyed sincere gratitude for Germany’s enduring support, emphasizing its tangible and visible impact on the Centre’s ability to effectively carry out its mandate in promoting peace and security across the region.
