KAIPTC Attracts Visits from Delegates of UN Ministerial Conference

The Centre received numerous visits from high-ranking delegates attending the 75th United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference held in Accra from December 5-6, 2023. The conference, a major biennial event for UN peacekeeping, attracts foreign and defense ministers from around the world.

The purposes of these visits were to learn more about KAIPTC’s work and explore collaboration opportunities, particularly in areas such as women, youth, peace and security, and the centre’s academic programmes 

Among the high profile visitors were ADM Peter Hammerschmidt, Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy), Department of National Defence, Canada; Maj Gen Antonio Luis, Deputy Chief of Operations, Angola Armed Forces; H.E Thomas Guerber, State Secretary of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs; Director Béatrice Le Frapper Du Hellen and French Ambassador H.E. Jules Armand Aniambossou. Others were Lt  General Carl-Johan Edström from Sweden; Dr. Arnold H. Kammel, the Secretary-General of the Austrian Ministry of Defence;  General Hany Nakhleh Rtd, a member of the International Committee of the Red Cross; State Secretary Mr. Nemanja Starovic and officials from the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia; H.E. Rohitha Bogollagama, Special Envoy of the President of Sri Lanka; Ms. Marie Lamo Vikanes, Deputy Norwegian Minister of Defence;  Mr. Holger Nielsen, former Foreign Minister of Denmark; Ms. Deborah Waren-Smith, Manager of the Elsie Initiative Fund for Uniformed Women in Peace Operations; HE Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Ambassador to the United Nations.

The visits have raised the profile of the Centre on the global stage and provided an opportunity for KAIPTC to showcase its work to a global audience.
