Acting Commandant Meets Former Gambian Vice President to discuss peace and security

On the sidelines of a regional training programme focused on Women, Peace and Security reporting in The Gambia, KAIPTC’S Acting Commandant, Air Commodore David Akrong, held a courtesy meeting with H.E. Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, former Vice President of The Gambia.

Their discussions offered deep insights into the peace and security dynamics of The Gambia and the wider West African region. H.E. Jallow-Tambajang underscored the critical role of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda in building sustainable peace, stressing that UN Security Council Resolution 1325 continues to serve as a cornerstone for conflict prevention and resolution across Africa.

Drawing from her tenure as The Gambia’s Minister of Women’s Affairs (2017–2018), she emphasized the transformative impact of women’s inclusion and leadership in peacebuilding, highlighting the long-term benefits of WPS programming on both national and regional stability.

Air Commodore Akrong, on his part, reaffirmed KAIPTC’s unwavering commitment to advancing peace and security through training, research, advocacy, and capacity building. He pointed to the Centre’s ongoing collaboration with Gambian institutions, including the Training-of-Trainers programme on the AU’s Continental Results Framework, organised in partnership with SIDA and the Gambia’s Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare to address reporting challenges on Gambia’s National Action Plan on WPS.

The meeting concluded with mutual assurances of deepening collaboration, coupled with warm acknowledgements of KAIPTC’s leadership over the years and its continued role as a trusted partner in regional peace and security.
