ACHPR Session and NGO Forum on Reparative Justice in The Gambia

KAIPTC participated in the 2025 NGO Forum and the Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), held in The Gambia, as part of its ongoing policy engagement on governance, justice, and peacebuilding in Africa.

Over the three-day Forum, participants engaged in dialogue and advocacy, reaffirming the role of civil society in promoting justice and accountability.

The Centre hosted the inaugural panel discussion titled “Reimagining Partnerships and Governance for Reparative Justice in Africa” which brought together experts and practitioners to examine governance systems, strategic partnerships, policy coherence, and regional integration as key enablers of reparative justice. Discussions highlighted the role of regional institutions, national governments, civil society organisations, and academia in shaping and implementing reparative frameworks. Former Vice President of The Gambia, H.E. Fatoumata Jabang, shared insights from the country’s governance reforms and transitional justice processes, drawing lessons from The Gambia’s transition from over two decades of authoritarian rule to democratic governance.
