Maj Gen Richard Addo Gyane receives CILG Distinguished Leadership Award

Major General Richard Addo Gyane, Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has been honoured by the Chartered Institute of Leadership and Governance (CILG), Ghana, for his outstanding leadership at the Centre.

The prestigious “Distinguished Leadership Award, 2023”, was presented to the Commandant for his dedicated service and transformational leadership at the Centre over the years.

The Deputy Commandant of KAIPTC, Air Commodore David Anetey Akrong, took the award on behalf of the Commandant and expressed appreciation to the institute for the recognition. He commended the CILG, Ghana for its role in equipping individuals with ideas and innovation and acknowledged the need for strong institutions and capable leaders to will harness the skills and capacities of people towards national development.

“It is only by doing so that the much-decried youth bulge, for example, can be a blessing to our nations rather than a curse”, he said.”

Dr Irene Stella Agyenim-Boateng, FCILG, Vice Chairman, Public Service Commission, spoke about the competencies of leaders in her keynote address. She said cultivating leadership needs to be an ongoing intentional act of nurturing, encouraging, guiding, teaching and supporting the efforts of those who have shown potential for leadership or are already in leadership positions.

Dr Agyenim-Boateng said CILG, Ghana prides itself as promoting excellence in the areas of leadership and governance. She said the Institute nurtures excellent leaders by providing individuals with bespoke developmental programmes and opportunities, which are tailor-made to address the specific growth needs of such individuals.

“We must continuously create opportunities for individuals to practice the art and science of leadership through formal and informal programmes, mentoring, coaching and playing experiential roles,” she said.

Reverend Dr. Francis Sarkodie-Addo, Facility Manager at the KAIPTC won the CILG Personality of the Year 2023 at the same event.

The Chartered Institute of Leadership and Governance is a professional body established under the laws of the State of New Mexico, United States of America, to build and implement Leadership and Governance skills in the administration of duties.

The 2023 Induction and Awards Ceremony, held at the KAIPTC, was on the theme: “Cultivating Leadership for a Thriving Future”. Ten new members were admitted to the CIGL, Ghana at the same ceremony.

Present at the event included Professor Jonathan Fletcher, Chairman of the National Executive Committee (NEC); Archbishop Professor Prince Hampel, Member, NEC; Dr Asare Bediako Adams, Country Director, CILG; Mrs Nana Adwoa Konadu Dsane, Vice Chairperson, NEC; and George Cyril Bray, Dean, Greater Accra Metropolitan Municipal District Chief Executives.
