Abuja, Nigeria – August 24 2026- As the African Union seeks to build peace missions that are more effective, accountable, sustainable and responsive to the people they serve, institutions such as the KAIPTC have an increasingly important role to play: turning experience into knowledge, knowledge into capacity, and capacity into meaningful action.
At the 2nd African Union Knowledge Management, Institutional Capacity-Building and Experience-Sharing on African Union Peace Missions held from the 24th –28th August 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria, that commitment was evident.

But the conversation in Abuja was more than peace missions. At its heart was a critical question for Africa: Can the continent learn quickly enough from its conflicts to ensure that tomorrow’s peace missions do not repeat yesterday’s mistakes?

Through the leadership and active participation of our Commandant, Air Vice Marshal David Anetey Akrong, the KAIPTC once again brought its voice, expertise and experience to this important continental conversation.
At the workshop, Air Vice Marshal Akrong moderated high-level discussions on key thematic areas shaping the future of AU Peace Missions.
He also facilitated deliberations on the protection of civilians, community engagement, humanitarian response and civil-military coordination; issues that lie at the heart of effective and people-centred peace operations.
In Abuja, the question was not simply how Africa can deploy more peace missions. It was how the continent can ensure that every mission learns from the one before it and that lessons paid for through lives, resources and years of experience are not lost.

In a world where the nature of conflict is changing rapidly, perhaps one of the most powerful investments Africa can make is in its ability to learn.
To remember.
To adapt.
And to act.
Because the future of peace in Africa will depend not only on the missions the continent deploys, but also on the knowledge it preserves, the institutions it strengthens and the leaders who ensure that every lesson learned becomes an opportunity to build a more peaceful tomorrow.
Drawing from Africa’s challenges to advance African-led solutions, the KAIPTC continues to help shape the conversation and transform knowledge into action.
