Austria & KAIPTC sustain commitment to groom Trainers, and capacitate key actors to enhance humanitarian and disaster relief in Africa

The eleventh edition of the Austrian Development Cooperation funded Humanitarian Assistance in West Africa Core Course (HAWA cc) took place from 13th – 24th February 2023 with thirty-two (32) participants. The course stands in the framework of the project “Capacity Building for Humanitarian Assistance in West Africa“, which is jointly implemented by the KAIPTC and the Austrian Centre for Peace (ACP). The aim of the HAWA cc is to improve effectiveness of humanitarian assistance by providing participants with thorough knowledge of the humanitarian sector and enhancing interaction and mutual understanding between civilian, police, and military actors involved in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in an African context.

Participants of the Humanitarian Assistance in West Africa Core Course during a recap session.  A participant shared how she intend on applying the knowledge and skills gained from the training as follows;

“I have written the report of the course to my organization to see how some of the knowledge gained will not only be for me but to impact my organization as a whole. On my own as a program officer, there are ways of injecting new perspective on humanitarian intervention especially in being mindful of the ‘Do no Harm’ and Humanitarian principles which I wouldn’t hesitate to always emphasize at program planning level. Also worthy of such attention is the mainstreaming of gender in program planning and policy. I am grateful for the opportunity to be on the course.” ~Anonymous, HAWAcc23
