(Accra, Ghana – 10th July, 2025) The Women Youth Peace And Security Institute (WYPSI) of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has launched its new Youth Mentorship Programme.
This six-month initiative sponsored by Norwegian Embassy in Ghana is set to significantly enhance KAIPTC’s commitment to fostering leadership, professional growth, and intergenerational learning among young African professionals and youth stakeholders.
The launch of the joint mentorship initiative, reaffirms KAIPTC and Norway’s dedication to nurturing a new generation of peacebuilders who will advance the vital mission of peace and security across Africa.
The program aims to empower youth to drive the continental Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda directly from within the Centre. This new program builds upon the success of the “Youth Starts With You” mentorship initiative, which was launched in September 2024 to equip mentors with essential guidance skills for their younger colleagues. Together, these two initiatives will establish a lasting framework for peer-driven learning and leadership development at KAIPTC.
The Deputy Commandant of the KAIPTC, Brigadier-General Zibrim Bawah Ayorrogo launching the programme highlighted the profound impact of mentorship.
“Mentorship bridges theory and practice, ambition and achievement, uncertainty and confidence,” he stated. “Through such relationships, we foster resilience, innovation, and cultivate the next wave of thought leaders, practitioners, and policy influencers in peace and security,” he added.
Brigadier-General Ayorrogo further emphasized KAIPTC’s adaptability in a complex and evolving world, noting that the Centre prepares young people not just to follow, but to lead and make significant contributions to teams, missions, and communities beyond its walls.
He lauded the program as a tangible demonstration of KAIPTC’s core values of collaboration, excellence, respect, and service.
He underscored that “leadership is not confined to titles, but is nurtured in the everyday acts of learning, teaching, and supporting one another.”
