WYPSI Conducts SIDA-Supported Training in Uganda to Strengthen GBV Response Across Africa

In June 2025, the Women, Youth, Peace and Security Institute (WYPSI) of KAIPTC expanded its regional footprint by conducting a five-day capacity-building training in Entebbe, Uganda, focused on strengthening institutional responses to gender-based violence (GBV).

Supported by the Government of Sweden through SIDA, the training programme convened officials from Uganda’s key ministries, civil society, media, judiciary, security sector, and faith-based groups — underscoring the urgent need for multi-sector collaboration in addressing GBV.

Opening the training, WYPSI’s Acting Director, Mad. Horname Noagbesenu, underscored the need to rethink strategies that directly engage local actors. Her remarks were echoed by Uganda’s Commissioner for Women and Gender Affairs, Dr. Angela Nakafeero, who noted the evolving forms of GBV, from physical abuse to rising cases of online violence, worsened by Uganda’s refugee burden.

UN Women Uganda also lent its voice, stressing that GBV remains one of the most widespread human rights violations and commending KAIPTC for extending its expertise to Uganda.

By providing participants with practical tools and knowledge, the training reinforced KAIPTC-WYPSI’s commitment to advancing global frameworks like the Maputo Protocol and UNSCR 1325, while supporting national efforts to build safer, more inclusive societies across Africa.
