KAIPTC Supports Ghana Armed Forces with Gender Orientation Across Training Schools

The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), through its Women, Peace and Security Institute (WYPSI), is supporting the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to undertake a nationwide orientation exercise across its training schools as part of efforts to strengthen gender mainstreaming within military education and operations.

The exercise, scheduled from 27 January to 17 February 2026, brings together Gender Advisors to the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Gender Advisors, and Gender Affairs Officers to equip them with practical knowledge and skills for the effective use of a Gender Training Manual developed in 2025.

The Manual was produced under the two-year project, “Strengthening the Capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces to Address Barriers to Women in Peace Operations,” funded by Global Affairs Canada through the Elsie Initiative Fund. The broader objective of the initiative is to increase the meaningful participation and representation of uniformed women in Peace Support Operations.

The orientation seeks to ensure uniformity, accuracy, and efficiency in the delivery of gender training across all levels of GAF instruction. By standardising the application of the Manual, the exercise reinforces institutional commitment to gender-responsive military education and operational effectiveness.

This strategic collaboration represents a significant milestone in advancing equal opportunities within the Ghana Armed Forces, strengthening inclusive leadership, and accelerating the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda in Ghana.

KAIPTC commends the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces for its continued commitment to promoting gender equality and building a more inclusive force that responds effectively to the needs of all personnel, regardless of rank, sex, or background.
