KAIPTC MOURNS THE PASSING OF HON. DR. EDWARD OMANE BOAMAH, MINISTER FOR DEFENCE AND CHAIRMAN OF THE GOVERNING BOARD

(Accra, August 6, 2025) — The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Hon. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence of the Republic of Ghana and Chairman of the KAIPTC Governing Board.

Dr. Omane Boamah’s sudden demise comes as a profound shock to the entire KAIPTC community, particularly as he graced the Centre with his presence barely two weeks ago. During his visit, he engaged meaningfully with management and staff, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the advancement of peace and security in Ghana and across the continent. His words of encouragement and strategic direction were inspiring, reaffirming his vision for the KAIPTC.

Dr. Omane Boamah chaired his first Governing Board meeting at the Centre in March, where he expressed a strong desire to position the KAIPTC as a continental centre of excellence for peace and security.

KAIPTC has lost not only a distinguished statesman and Cabinet Minister but also a dependable ally and visionary leader. His passing leaves a significant void within our institutional family and the broader peace and security community in Africa.

Dr. Omane Boamah passed away today, August 6, 2025, in a helicopter crash while on official duty in Ghana. The crash also claimed the lives of some government officials and crew members from the Ghana Armed Forces.

The KAIPTC extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Hon. Dr. Omane Boamah and the families of all who died in the crash, the Ministry of Defence and its allied institutions, and the Government and people of Ghana.

We stand in solidarity with the nation in this moment of great sorrow.

May their souls rest in perfect peace.
