KAIPTC HOSTS THE CHANCELLOR OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA IN A MOMENTOUS EVENT

The KAIPTC hosted His Excellency Olaf Scholz, the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany on 31st October, 2023. The Federal Chancellor was accompanied by Ghana’s president, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo, Ministers of State and other dignitaries. The historic visit demonstrated not only the partnerships between the two countries but Germanys financial and technical commitment to the KAIPTC in its quest to build the needed capacities to promote peace and security in the sub region.

 

 

His Excellency Olaf Scholz, said the dedicated works of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) is a testament of Ghana’s willingness to promote peace and security in Africa. He said Germany was proud to have been among the leading international supporters of the KAIPTC for almost 20 years and pledged his country’s support to the work of the Centre.

 

 

Touching on security in the sub region, the Federal Chancellor said, threats of terrorism in West Africa remained complex and challenging. He said that “terrorists exploit any lack of unity and cooperation and that is what makes Ghana’s ‘Accra Initiative’ so valuable, because it fosters cross border cooperation through intelligence sharing and joint cooperation.
“Germany and other like-minded partners stand ready to support such approaches by taking a pragmatic look at needs of the ground.” He said.

 

 

Ghana’s Minister(s) for Information, Defence, Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the UN Resident Coordinator, the Dean and Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Service Chiefs of the Ghana Armed Forces were among the dignitaries in attendance

President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the many years of cooperation between Ghana and Germany, which led to the establishment of KAIPTC in 2004. He reiterated the Centre’s global recognition for its work and contributions to the promotion of peace in the region, the continent and in the world.

 

 

The Commandant of the KAIPTC, Major General Richard Addo Gyane, spoke specifically about the benefits of the German corporation to the Centre. The significant visit exemplifies the recognition of KAIPTC’s vital role in peace and stability on the Continent. It further solidifies the cooperation between the Government of Germany and the KAIPTC, setting a positive stage for increased collaboration and strategic partnerships, as the Centre prepares for another 5 year strategic phase
