(Tamale, Ghana. July 26, 2024) Maj. Gen. Richard Addo Gyane, the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), paid a courtesy call on the Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Saibu, at the Regional Coordinating Council in Tamale. The visit coincided with Maj. Gen. Gyane’s participation in the closing ceremony of the “Effective Communication for Defence and Security Actors Course,” organized by KAIPTC and sponsored by the U.S. government.

During the visit, Maj. Gen. Gyane emphasized the importance of conducting the course in the Northern Region, which he noted is vulnerable to violent extremist activities due to its proximity to Burkina Faso.

“Terrorism and violent extremism are close to Tamale, and we have come to the region to empower and build the capacity of Defence and Security Actors on early warning threats and how to combat them,” he said.

Regional Minister Shani Alhassan Saibu expressed the northern region’s honor in hosting the course, calling it timely. He stressed the necessity of maintaining peace for economic prosperity and praised efforts by the KAIPTC to ensure regional security.

“The fear of terrorism in the Northern Region is high, and there is a need for homegrown solutions to combat any threats,” the minister added.

Maj. Gen. Gyane was accompanied to the Regional Coordinating Council by Air Commodore Mensah-Larkai, Air Force Base/Garrison Commander, Tamale; and Brig. Gen. Frank Tei, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, Ghana Army.
