KAIPTC and German Government, through UNITAR, Launch Logistics in Peace Support Operations Course

(15 September 2025 – Accra, Ghana) The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), in collaboration with the German Government through the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), has started the 2025 Logistics in Peace Support Operations Course (LOGPSOC), a two-week capacity-building programme.

Sponsored by the German Government through UNITAR, LOGPSOC is designed to equip 29 participants—12 women and 17 men—from 12 countries across the globe with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to plan, deploy, and manage logistics in Peace Support Operations (PSOs).

Opening the course, KAIPTC’s Director of Training, Colonel Lawrence Deku, reaffirmed the Centre’s demand-driven approach, which is informed by stakeholder consultations and capacity needs assessments. He recalled that a 2019 joint assessment with the African Union (AU) and ECOWAS identified logistics planning and management as a major gap in PSOs. In response, and with German support, KAIPTC developed and piloted the LOGPSOC in 2021 to strengthen logistics capacity across Africa.

Colonel Deku stressed that enhancing the expertise of logistics planners and managers is critical for ensuring rapid response, professionalism, and efficiency in PSOs, particularly in the face of global supply chain disruptions. He encouraged participants to fully engage, share experiences, and contribute to refining the course for future cohorts, while also enjoying Ghana’s cultural and recreational offerings during their stay.

Representing the German Embassy, Political Advisor Ms. Pauline Okkens reiterated Germany’s commitment to supporting African partners in building sustainable capacity for peace and stability. She underscored the course’s importance in bridging logistics gaps within AU and ECOWAS member states, and commended the progress made since the programme’s pilot phase.

Ms. Okkens urged participants to maximize the training and return to their countries as stronger logisticians, ready to contribute to national and continental peace efforts. She officially declared the course open and wished participants every success.
