Job purpose


The Senior HR Officer provides practical, timely support, to the Head of HR on the full life cycle of HR activities. The Senior HR Officer plays a critical role for ongoing attention to employee engagement, efficient and timely operations, and compliance. The jobholder will support the development and implementation of HR initiatives and systems. He/She shall provide recommendations on policies and procedures and assist the Human Resource Manager in the performance of the all HR functions. The jobholder shall support in HR planning activities, touch base on all relevant issues with the HR manager for appropriate direction and authorization. This position js truly Generalist in its nature.


Main Duties


This role would be supporting on a variety of duties such as:

  1. Coordinate recruitment and effective onboarding processes;
  2. Raise HR-related issues with Heads of Units in a proactive and diplomatic fashion, identifying practical solutions and appropriate action plans;
  3. Contribute to the production of annual HR and resources plan;
  4. Develop and maintain periodic human resources reports for Head of HR, utilizing standard HR-related metrics;
  5. Coordinate the review, revision and streamlining general HR procedures and forms to enhance efficiency and effectiveness;
  6. Coordinate the planning and execution of staff capacity building programmes (L&D) to better employee performance and well-being;
  7. Identify areas for proactive engagement to create programmes for employee growth and development with the right resources for employees so they can feel supported at work;
  8. Follow changes in labour, tax, health and safety laws to make sure the Centre is compliant;
  9. Manage employee records including attendance, time off and all other leave applications;
  10. Ensure compliance with labour laws, rules, regulations and best practices;
  11. Coordinate salary and attitude surveys;
  12. Coordinate the annual performance review process, collation and analysis of performance appraisal instruments;
  13. Provide support in all employee relational initiatives including health, safety and welfare;
  14. Provide monthly reports to the HR Manager on all activities, for future reference and incorporation into routine reports to senior management;
  15. Serve as back-up on all functions completed by the HR Manager;
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Human Resource Manager within the scope and intent of the job;

Minimum Requirement

Educational Qualification and Experience

  • Master’s degrees in human resource, management, business administration or a university degree from a recognized institution in administration or social sciences with professional training in human resource management.
  • Proven experience as an HR Officer, Administrator in an HR environment, or other HR positions with a minimum of 8 years (post qualification) relevant Human Resources experience, and at least 3 years in a supervisory position. Significant experience with an international organization and/or international agency is desirable. Fluency in French would be an advantage. A recognised professional HR qualification and membership is preferred

  • Knowledge and experience of HR functions (compensation & benefits, recruitment, learning & development, etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience of employment legislation and best practices Ghana and international.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Experience implementing HR policies and disciplinary procedures.
  • Experience of preparing HR reports.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite; with capacity to operate in databases including HRIS.
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management abilities.

  • Critical strategic thinker with constructive approaches to problem solving
  • Adaptability skills for managing change and unpredictability.
  • Any relevant credentials in Human Resource Management are a plus.
