Job Title:                         Programme Officer – Youth

Department:                 Women, Youth, Peace and Security Institute (WYPSI)

Reports to:                     Programme Specialist

 

The Women, Youth, Peace and Security Institute’s (WYPSI) work is to accelerate the full implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) and Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda across the African Continent and beyond. In view of this, KAIPTC is looking for a strong, dynamic and highly experienced person to provide high quality programme support services to facilitate implementation of activities of WYPSI as follows:

 

  1. Conduct desk reviews, field and internet based research in support of WYPSI programme objectives, and according to the Youth objectives.
  2. Rapporteuring at workshops and seminars, including accurate report writing for assigned Programmes. Writing of articles and reports for the KAIPTC website or newsletter (WYPSI component) and other relevant publications.
  3. Provide high quality administrative support for the organisation of workshops, meetings, reflection series and all other activities of the assigned programme.
  4. Provide training support, i.e. contribute to the compilation of training resources, logistics materials and background papers, etc.
  5. Assist in the generation of content and uploading of information on the KAIPTC website (WYPSI component).
  6. Support the development and maintenance of contact with the WYPSI partners’ link into KAIPTC database and possible standby rosters.
  7. Support assigned programmes in resource mobilization efforts, organize donor roundtables, meetings etc.
  8. Provide programmatic assistance such as (the development of TORs, Concept notes, resource and participants lists, etc) for organization of meetings and workshops, etc.
  9. Support the preparation of reports, budget and financial management reports.
  10. Perform any other responsibilities within the scope and content of the job as assigned by supervisor.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

Education

A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Youth, Gender, Peace and Security, International Relations or related disciplines in Social Sciences is required. A certification in administration would be an advantage. Working ability of French is highly desirable.

 

Experience

Minimum of 5 years post qualification programme and administrative experience is required at the national or international level. Knowledge of conflict in Africa, Women, Youth and Gender in conflict prevention and management challenges, and the emergent policies and structures to meet these challenges in the West African context would be preferable.

  • Proven knowledge in human rights, peace and security and an understanding of youth, gender, women and conflict issues and concepts in Africa and West Africa in particular.
  • Proven knowledge of the UNSCR 1325, the Maputo Protocol, other follow-up resolutions and frameworks such as the Continental Results Frameworks (CRF) on Women, Youth, Peace and Security.
  • Proven knowledge of the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) Agenda (2015) and UNSCR 2250, 2419 and 2535; with an understanding of the roles the youth play in decisions making, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, leadership and governance and, the need for their increased participation and representation in these spaces.
  • Use of Information Technology effectively as a tool and resource
  • Plans, prioritizes, and delivers tasks on time
  • Excellent networking skills
  • Project management and Report writing skills
  • Quantitative and qualitative research skills
  • Contributes creative, practical ideas and approaches to dealing with challenging situations.
  • Demonstrates effective written and presentation skills.
  • Working ability of French (and or Portuguese) would be an advantage.
