Henrik Urdal (PhD, Political Science, University of Oslo) is Research Professor and former Director at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). He is the past Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Peace Research. He has previously worked for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He is a former Research Fellow with the East-West Centre and the International Security Program at Harvard Kennedy School. Urdal’s work on political demography has been published in leading international academic journals, including Demography, Global Environmental Change, International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Peace Research, Political Geography, and World Development. His research focuses on the impact of population and environmental change on armed conflict, including the security implications of urbanisation, ‘youth bulges,’ and climate change. He has worked extensively on global trends in armed conflict as the past Director for PRIO's Conflict Trends project.
