Colonel Richyson Kofi Debrah , Chief Coordinator , KAIPTC
Colonel Richyson Kofi Debrah is the Chief Coordinator at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC). A Regular Armour Officer of the Ghana Armed Forces commissioned in 2000, he has over 26 years of military service, with extensive experience in strategic leadership, operational command, peace support operations and professional military education.
Throughout his career, Colonel Debrah has held a wide range of command, staff and instructional appointments at both national and multinational levels. His professional experience spans peacekeeping, counterterrorism, intelligence, crisis response, military operations and security sector training. He has commanded troops in peacekeeping operational environments and contributed to national security planning, policy development and institutional capacity building.
Prior to his current appointment as Chief Coordinator, Colonel Debrah served as a Course Director at KAIPTC and as a Military Training Officer at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, from 2020 to 2024. He has also served as Deputy Army Secretary, Deputy Director Army Peacekeeping Operations, Deputy Director Army Operations and Assistant Director Army Peacekeeping Operations.
His command appointments include Officer Commanding Special Unit at Kinshasa International Airport in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Officer Commanding, 153 Armour Regiment. He also served for 8 years as an Army Peacekeeping Instructor, during which he contributed significantly to the professional preparation and training of officers and soldiers for deployment on United Nations peacekeeping operations.
An experienced peacekeeper, Colonel Debrah has undertaken operational deployments under United Nations mandates in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Sudan (Darfur), the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan. He has also contributed to the planning and execution of major multinational military exercises, including Exercise Flintlock and Exercise African Lion.
Colonel Debrah holds a Bachelor of Science in Administration, a Postgraduate Diploma in Defence and Conflict Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration, and a Master’s Degree in Governance and Leadership. He has also completed numerous senior and junior command and staff courses, as well as professional programmes in intelligence, leadership, counterterrorism, security and United Nations operations in Ghana and abroad.
His extensive experience across command, staff, training and multinational environments reflects a career dedicated to professional military service, peacekeeping and the advancement of peace and security.
Outside his professional duties, Colonel Debrah enjoys playing football and watching movies.
