Africa Union Peace Support Operations Staff Course

The Africa Union Peace Support Operations Staff Course sponsored by the German Government has commenced at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).

The 2-week training program is a new course developed by the Centre at the request of the African Union to respond among other things to the AUs specific needs of planning and decision-making, analytical skills, research skills, report writing, presentation skills, technical writing skills and asset management skills.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the training program, the Deputy Commandant of KAIPTC; Air Commodore David Akrong said he is optimistic that the course would enhance the skills, knowledge and competencies of the participants to operate as professional military, police and civilian PSO staff for successful integrated peace support operations. He was also hopeful the training would enhance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of participants to effectively perform administrative, operational and logistical functions in AU PSOs.

The Political Advisor at the German Embassy; Ms. Pauline Okkens in her opening remarks reiterated that Germany will continue to honor its pledge to partner with KAIPTC to support and strengthen peacekeepers as well as equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage complex peace operations.

For the next 2 weeks, participants will undergo comprehensive training, share valuable experiences and forge lifelong bonds while training to be in a position to operate in AU and other regional security architecture PSOs without any difficulty.
