WPSI partners to launch GHANAP-II as part of 2020 International Women’s Day celebration

February 27, 2020 – The Women, Peace and Security Institute (WPSI) of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) is partnering with the Ministry for Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP), the West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), the Ghana Chapter of the Working Group on Women Youth Peace and Security (WGWYPS-GH), the GIZ support Office to the KAIPTC and the Canadian High Commission in Ghana to celebrate the 2020 International Women’s Day.

The theme for the celebration is “I am Generation Equality: Advancing Women and Girls’ Rights in Ghana”. A major highlight of the programme is the launch of the second Ghana National Action Plan (GHANAP II) on the United Nations Security Council Resolution UNSCR (1325) by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

The launch of the GHANAP II shows renewed commitment from Ghana to promote the rights of women and girls especially in conflict situations as well as promote participation of women in peace processes. This will be followed by panel discussions on the theme, and the role of women in promoting peaceful elections in Ghana, as the country prepares for its presidential and parliamentary elections in December 2020. The programme will also galvanise support to promote collaboration from all organisations working on the WPS agenda in Ghana through the Working Group on Women Youth Peace and Security (WGWYPS-GH).

The programme for commemorating the IWD will be attended by various national security sector institutions, relevant government departments, academic and research institutions and civil society organisations working on the Women Peace and Security (WPS) agenda.
