KAIPTC holds maiden Alumni/Homecoming event

KAIPTC holds maiden Alumni/Homecoming event

Since the inception of the Academic programmes at KAIPTC in 2011, 365 students from different countries across the world have graduated.  In order to bring the past student together and provide a common platform to foster and deepen the sense of belongingness through interactions and networking, the KAIPTC organized its maiden Alumni Day on 20th July, 2017, under the theme ‘Reconnecting and Networking for Peace and Security’.

The following were some of the key objectives for organizing the Alumni Day;

  • To update the knowledge of students on global issues in peace and security;
  • Foster linkages amongst the past students for a sustained sense of friendly relations, sharing of ideas and mutual support:
  • Inform the past students about the current state of the academic programme;
  • Encourage both past and present students to promote and support the academic programmes;
  • Discuss the modalities of forming a KAIPTC  Alumni Association;
  • Obtain and update current information on all past students in order to maintain regular contacts with them.

As anticipated, about 170 past and current students participated in the maiden Alumni Day celebration. In the welcome address of AVM Griffiths Santrofi Evans, the Commandant of the KAIPTC, he indicated his excitement in seeing the past students once again and urged all to use the occasion to deepen their connections with friends as well as remain active for future alumni related programmes.

H.E. Christoph Retzlaff, German Ambassador to Ghana was the Guest of Honour for the occasion. In his remarks, he noted that the KAIPTC is well known in Germany as a Centre of Excellence in peace support operations. He also urged the Alumni to actively contribute to the progress of KAIPTC, especially as brand ambassadors for the Centre.

The event featured keynote speakers and alumni such as Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister for Communications, Hon. Gifty Ohene-Konadu, National Coordinator for the ‘One District, One Factory’ programme at the Office of the President, and Mr. Seth Kwame Boateng, Broadcast Journalist, and Past Ghana Journalist of the year.  In addition, there were experience sharing sessions which involved past and continuing students who shared views on their motivations to pursue the academic courses at the KAIPTC and its impact on their life and work.

The proposal to form an Alumni Association was key to the Alumni Day programme. Thus, representatives of all the student groups were nominated to serve as focal persons who will work together to draft the constitution and also identify the necessary structures and activities for the institution of the KAIPTC Alumni Association.

Currently, the background work is still ongoing. The details will be published, after issues are finalized, all will be invited to participate in the selection of Alumni Executives.
