Abstract: As empirical studies on early warning and the recruitment and use of Child soldiers evolve, it is important to examine the relevance of a gender sensitive early warning approach to prevent the recruitment and use of child soldiers in armed conflicts. What are the distinct roles of women and girls in the early warning process? How can a gender sensitive data collection and analysis improve the early warning indicators? This paper will review the gaps of a gender-blind early warning approach and assess the way forward.
