Review : Partnering Integrated Logistics Operations Tactics

The PILOT Course is a two week course for officers between the rank of army Captain and Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent and civilians of similar status, focusing on the planning, co-ordination and conduct of logistics in Peace Support Operations (PSO). The course which is based on a mixture of seminars, exercises, and syndicate discussions gives in-depth knowledge on UN logistics planning and execution, as well as outlining the logistics roles in Disarmament Demobilization Reintegration (DDR) and Civil Military (CIMIC) operations. On completion, participants will be able to plan and execute the logistics function in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environments, especially within the PSO environment.

To provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to be more effective logisticians in traditional or complex peace operations in order to operate effectively as support officers in their national headquarters, logisticians within a deployed unit, or as Mission Headquarters logistics staff officers

The course includes theory and information on:

• United Nations Headquarters and Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO).
• Mission planning; Force Deployment Planning and Execution (FDP&E), Reception Staging Onward Movement and Integration (RSOI), sustainment, redeployment.
• United Nations field mission logistic and administrative support organizations.
• Contingent Owned Equipment (COE), finance, procurement, and contracting.
• National operational and logistic functions in peacekeeping missions.
• Current operational and logistic experiences/realities in peacekeeping missions.
• Role of civilian police, military observers in peace support operations.
• Introduction to the mission role in Demobilization, Disarmament, and Reintegration and (CIMIC)
• Role of Media in PSO.
• Gender and Ethics in PSO.
• Course final exercise which encompasses all theory and practical applications.

This course is designed for the following persons: military or civilian logisticians in their national forces, Headquarters logistics staff of Regional Organizations or peace support missions and other civilian’s expectant of being deployed in a peacekeeping mission.
