PILOT Course designed to train logisticians for multi-dimensional and multi-faceted Peace Support Operations (PSO)

KAIPTC wish to invite qualified and interested parties to attend the PILOT Course designed to train logisticians for multi-dimensional and multi-faceted Peace Support Operations (PSO). This is the third PILOT Course scheduled to be run at the KAIPTC, having successfully held two during 2009.

The course evolved from the demands of past and current United Nations (UN) PSOs and is based on logistics concepts of modern military organizations. Although the course will have an ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) logistics coupled with African Standby Force ASF Focus, the processes presented will have applicability to all operations conducted on the continent.

The PILOT Course is a two week course for officers between the rank of army Captain and Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent and civilians of similar status, focusing on the planning, co-ordination and conduct of logistics in PSO. The course which is based on a mixture of seminars, exercises, and syndicate discussions gives in-depth knowledge on ASF/ESF logistics planning and execution, as well as outlining the logistics roles in Disarmament Demobilization Reintegration (DDR) and Civil Military (CIMIC) operations. On completion, participants will be able to plan and execute the logistics function in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environments, especially within the PSO environment.

This course is designed for the following persons: military or civilian logisticians in their national forces, Headquarters logistics staff of Regional Organizations or peace support missions and other civilian’s expectant of being deployed in a peacekeeping mission.

• Captains to Lieutenant Colonels or equivalent, civilians with professional qualifications.
• Relevant work experience of at least two years. 
• All applicants are to have a working knowledge of English, both written and oral.
• Course Capacity 30 participants, ECOWAS/ESF will have first priority for spaces, anyone not referred by ECOWAS will be admitted on a case by case basis.
• The course is residential and course participants will be accommodated at the KAIPTC.
• Problem Based Learning (PBL) and facilitation will be employed as teaching methods.
• Guest facilitators/presenters with field experiences will be invited to enrich the course content, if necessary.
• Estimated budget costs will be covered by Government of Canada and includes facilitation fees, travel, food and accommodation for participants and facilitators. UN personnel are encouraged to fund their own travel, which will help reduce overall costs considerably.
• Application deadline: 29 April 2010
• All students will be required to conduct a 15-20 minute presentation of country of origin or organizations logistics capabilities.
