The Regional Partnership for Peace and Security

The Regional Partnership for Peace and Security (REPPS) programme, previously the ESF programme, was established in 2010. Its aim is to use a regionalist approach in peace and security research. REPPS is primarily concerned with emerging regional peace and security threats in Africa. The programme therefore explores the mechanisms through which African regional organizations, such as ECOWAS and AU are responding to such crisis through a joint approach. Another dimension of REPPS is to support the building of civilian capacities for peacekeeping in Africa. In this respect, the programme conducts research in the civilian component of the African/ECOWAS standby force with a view to supporting the operationalisation of this pillar.
