    Accra, December 11, 2017: Extremism and terrorism are regarded as twin security threats facing West Africa today. The sub-region’s vulnerabilities to these threats are due to several factors, some of which include tribal conflict, porous borders, weak state institutions, widespread corruption, poverty and mass unemployment, spread of Small Arms and Light Weapons, farmer-grazers land conflict, and ethnic tensions.

  • H.E. Paolo Gentiloni, Prime Minister of Italy, delivers Public Lecture at KAIPTC
    Accra, 28 November, 2017: His Excellency, Paolo Gentiloni, Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy on Tuesday, 28th November, addressed some members of the Diplomatic Corps, invited representatives from public, private and civil society organizations, serving and retired personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, and staff of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).
  • KAIPTC and the New Zealand Defence Force strengthen capacity of Ghanaian Female Security Personnel
    Accra, November 24, 2017: The passage of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 in 2000, was among others, aimed at improving the participation of women in peacebuilding, and the prevention of conflict through addressing conflict-related sexual violence. Though there has been some fruitful global efforts towards its achievement, a review by the UN in 2015 pinpointed some challenges; addressing them requires continuous multi-stakeholder collaboration at all levels. In this light, the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) and the New Zealand Defense Force have been partnering to strengthen the capacity of Ghanaian female security personnel in various facets of their work.

    Accra, 22 November, 2017: The Deputy Commandant for the Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), Colonel Panganai Kahuni, has led a three-member delegation to visit the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC). The purpose of the visit, was to acquaint themselves with KAIPTC’s best governance and administrative policies/practices; it was also to explore areas of possible collaboration between both institutions on applicable processes of implementing the AU requirements on maintaining peace and stability in Africa.
  • KAIPTC matriculates fourth batch of students for the Executive Master of Arts Degree in Conflict, Peace and Security and the Third Cohort for the PHD in International Conflict Programmes
    Accra, October 5, 2017: A joint matriculation ceremony for the fourth cohort of the Executive Masters Degree in Conflict, Peace and Security (EMCPS 4) and the third cohort of the Doctor Of Philosophy (PhD) in International Conflict Management has been held at the Gerhard Schröder Hall AT the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping International Centre (KAIPTC). Thirty-three students enrolled for the year-long Masters programme, whiles four enrolled for the four-year PhD programmme. The students are from diverse sectors/institutions such as the Security and Intelligence Agencies, International and Regional Organizations, Civil/Public Service, Legislature, the Media, private sector and Civil Society/Non-Governmental Organizations.

Mr. Seji Saji, Deputy Director General of the National Disaster Management Organization, Ghana, has set the tone for a two-week interactive course on Humanitarian Assistance in West Africa at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre. ‘’The subject (of humanitarian assistance) is very relevant to us in Africa, and particularly those of us in West Africa because, apart from the fact that we are part of the global village, the brunt of most civil strife and major disasters, continue to find comfort in our sub-region’’ he stated.
  • African Police Officers undergo training on Mentoring and Advising at KAIPTC
    Accra, October 2, 2017: A two-week Pilot Trainer of Trainers’ course on Mentoring and Advising, organized by the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), in collaboration with the European Police Service Training (EUPST), has opened with fifteen (15) police officers from seven (7) African countries in attendance. The programme seeks to accomplish a number of objectives. It aims at building the capabilities of Police and Gendarmerie of the European Union, the United Nations, the African Union and other international organizations. Participants will also be equipped with operational capacity and law enforcement skills and knowledge, and receive information on ways to deepen personal relations and teamwork in diverse cultures, to foster a common understanding of international policing in the contexts of conflict resolution.

KAIPTC Partners Austria to roll out Africa’s first Political Advisor Course for Peace Support Operations in Africa

The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has partnered the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defense and Sports to develop the first-ever Political Advisor Course for Peace Support Operations in Africa. This course comes to critically fill a need and void in grooming Political Advisors who play a very critical role in providing leadership support for Commanders of Military Operations and Heads of Missions in Africa.

KAIPTC trains Research Staff of the Parliament of Zimbabwe

KAIPTC, at the request of the Parliament of Zimbabwe, has conducted a capacity building workshop in Policy Analysis and Design for selected staff of the Department of Research of the legislative body. The five-day workshop, aimed at equipping the participants with the requisite knowledge and skills in public analysis and design, in order to deliver effective technical and research assistance to committees and members of Parliament. Participants comprised research officers who all hold various academic qualifications from different disciplines such as Law, Economics, Political Science, Public Health, Gender studies, Humanities and Development Studies.
